Ready to take your household and/or organization carbon neutral?

Calculate your ecological & carbon footprints online at Zerofootprint!

Then, contact Momentum Bay's green power 4 Texas at 877-ECO-TEXAS to learn how to reduce your footprint and also to purchase Carbon Offsets to balance out all or a portion of your commercial and/or household emissions. Since most of your stakeholders may find it difficult to touch, feel & understand the economic, social & environmental consequences of hundreds, millions or billions of tons of carbon dioxide, our green management & green power consultants help customers like your organization to calculate & communicate effectively the impact of your sustainable decisions.

Why is carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, bad?

The simple explanation is that carbon dioxide creates a atmospheric blanket that reflects the suns radiation back to Earth, causing climate change. Also, once carbon is released from fossil fuels by burning them, carbon combines with two oxygen molecules to create CO2. Scientists agree that this CO2 remains in the atmosphere 50-200 years. And, as the atmospheric concentration increases, the ocean absorbs the vast majority. In so doing, the ocean is becoming more and more acidic, much like a carbonated soft drink. Scientists also agree that ocean acidification1, if left unchecked, will ultimately lead to the dissolving of shelled organisms, like the coral reef and fish with scales.

How can each of us make a difference, and create a healthy, sustainable Texas?

Conservation is the best alternative energy & the best way to avoid emissions. Texas leads the nation in emitting the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, and produces 1.5 trillion pounds of CO2 yearly. That's more than the next two biggest pollutering states combined (California and Pennsylvania, which together have twice Texas' population). To put this fact in context, 1.5 trillion pounds of CO2 is more than every nation in the world except six: the United States, China, Russia, Japan, India & Germany. Said another way, to offset 1.5 trillion pounds of CO2 would take planting 144 billion trees. Each year, we harvest roughly 100 million trees. And, Texas' forest ecosystem (including trees, soil, floor & understory) stores less than 1.4 billion pounds of carbon, or the equivalent of 5.1 billion pounds of CO2, that is, only 3.4% of what Texas emits.

So, we're way over budget. Even if every Texan business & household wanted to offset its emissions by planting trees, we couldn't. We would need far more than the number of trees in Texas. But, conserving & offsetting together make a significant difference.

Thank you for striving to create a healthy, sustainable Texas.
